Grill table and lid support
« on: April 22, 2014, 03:42:06 PM »
I just got my first OTG and I want to build a nice table for it. I want it to be about 6' long with the grill on the left. I've already partially melted the left handle placing the lid hook on it so I want to get Weber's lid rack. Any suggestions or pictures you can share will be greatly appreciated.

I saw the other picture with the grill and wondered if that happened.  Put the lid on the side between the handles next time.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

Yikes !
You didn't learn that here.

 :D

On your table, one of the coolest things that I've seen is an old, de-commisioned gasser frame built into a table.
Sometimes these old gassers are free.
You end up with a frame like this, then add some imagination, planking and voila !

I posted a pic of a table made out of one of these....can't find it at the moment.

On a side note someone has promised me some ipe (exotic rot resistant hardwood) to build my table out of. That said, I want to make sure I build it right the first time. I'm pretty excited to get started.

For the best effect, try to use a Weber frame as illustrated above.

Are you going to build a table to sit the kettle into?
Here's one of mine, the lid holder worked really well, a lot better than webers lid bale system. As you can see the lid is right out of the way, making it easy to access all parts of the grill

The lid holder is a piece of aluminium about an inch by 1/4 inch and bent into a semi circle shape
Then covered in heat shrink plastic and bolted on to the table
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

I like that. I think I definitely want it mounted in the table.

FYI the kettle simply sits in the table by the handles, so it's very easy to take out and clean or swap kettles in.

I like Hogsy's design with the handles above the table top.

I like the tables in the following thread. I hope to fabricate something similar when spring arrives.
