I almost commented on that terrible waste of a nice vintage Weber.

I was gonna say "use a Char-Broil" but, being a Weber fan, I wouldn't want one in my yard...  even for a planter.

Maybe we should pile onto folks like this & it gets seen enough times the madness will stop?

Would be kinda mean-spirited, but geez............. :o

No better way to recycle that old crappy Weber.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

Eh, live and let live. Some people would have no known alternative than to trash it.

That said, I would expect a clay pot's porous nature or something with a different shape to make a better planter, but I'm no green thumb. Maybe when the weight of all that dirt finally weakens the legs she'll be tired of her cute experiment.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

More power to them, I'd rather they use it as a planter than throw it out.

That's a good point... If it were between getting crushed at a junkyard or made into a planter, I'd choose the planter. But that first scenario is stupid, throwing away an old Weber. :-/

Kettles are rescued from bad homes every day.
This is just another kind of bad home where some genius thinks he/she is being creative.

I'm with you Landgraftj.
I spoke with my local trash pickup crew AND a local scrap guy who roams around the city in a beat up truck.
BOTH of them told me that they see about two old weber grills EVERY WEEK.

I gave them my number and told them I'd buy anything they find that isn't black.

I don't think its disrespectful at all to re-purpose old grills, as long as its in a classy way.
Planters are fine. Pizza ovens are better.

Right on mud! My wife commandeered one if my beat to shit black 18s than we got for $10 and turned it into a planter. I can't argue with her either, she allows me to keep 35+ grills at our home. Least I could do to make her happy.

Ok I concede that a planter is better than the scrapper. I just hate to see it happen to the vintage ones especially kettles of color. That's just my .02  I could be wrong...

Craig if it were a colored or rare kettle I'd be pissed. Mine was far from vintage.
