MBH renewal
« on: April 15, 2014, 08:34:28 AM »
I'm so happy with the way my black MBH cleaned up that I wanted to post a couple of pictures :D
I've washed it a couple times since I got it but last week I decided to try wiping it down with Pam as it was very grey looking.
I also put some new finish on the handle which I had thought was too far gone to bother with.
Also cleaned up the legs, etc with steel wool.
What a difference!
I apologize, I didn't have a very good before picture but here ya go anyway....
Before

And after

I'm sure someone here has a spare pan for you!  Hopefully someone will chime in and you can work out some sort of deal.

Looks great! I haven't tried my hand at restoring a kettle, but restore old motorcycles and other stuff for fun. If you wanted to spruce it up a little more you could try dipping the triangle (or anything with rust on it for that matter) in Evaporust and then hit it with fine-ish sandpaper, and then maybe some polish. Fine sandpaper on the legs and maybe some polish would probably look great too.
Evaporust: http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=evaporust .
Sandpaper blocks I like. All different grades: http://www.harborfreight.com/pack-of-10-fine-grade-aluminum-oxide-sanding-sponges-46753.html
Polish I like: http://www.autosol.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=1824
I'm not trying to thread jack, just throwing out a few suggestions. Here's a vise I did not too long ago using some of the same methods.
