The sellers name is Bob supposedly. No elbows here, just want an honest and fair auction. Anyone that hurts brothers or sisters in the Weber community...should be banned for life.

It could be the seller, but it could also be someone else who is "curious" about what your max bid is.  They bid a high amount that they think will exceed the current high bid, just to see what the high bidder's max bid is.  After they have seen it, they then retract the bid claiming it was done in error.  There used to be a way to see how many bid retractions a particular account has had in a given period of time.  I don't remember if you could do it to the buyer's account or to retracting bidder's account.  They may be someone interested in the grill who doesn't want to run the bidding up right now, but will wait until the end because you might turn around & outbid them.  It can also be someone who has a similar grill & is wondering how much it might potentially be worth.

Talked to the owners buddy. These guys are pickers and he picked it up for $5 ...also believe there is some shill bidding going on. I told him I was going to bid up to a certain amount, and nothing more. When I left his house I was out bid...an hour later the bid was retracted. Something definitely not right about this deal...just a feeling.

I know some sellers where it has happened on their accounts & they get pissed because the high bidder often thinks the seller was shill bidding using another account & often they will back out of buying the item.  Sometimes, nobody even outbids that person, so the sellers don't know if it was someone looking to see if they would try outbidding in the last seconds & said "too rich for my blood" or if it was just some lookie loo who was just "curious".

regards,
Hal

Are we positive this grill was repaired? Is it possible this was an original attempt at a tripod before the welded sockets were used?

Congrats! I was in it for a little bit but decided not to go in for the last minute bidding (I've got money tied up to go towards another hobby for a purchase soon). Someday I want one this old... enjoy! Glad someone here got it.
