I have not had that many dealings with Ebay.  Never sold anything and only made a handful of purchases.

At the bottom of the item description section the seller clearly stated in the body  - Offers Possible

I wasn't bidding on this nor do I know who the buyer is.   I don't see an integrity issue by either the seller or buyer.  I am sorry you missed out though Joe. I personally would liked to have seen the auction go the distance.  Are there Ebay rules against accepting offers during an auction?

Another thing I noticed is the Penthouse box shows it was shipped to Morley Brothers in Saginaw, Michigan and it was package 2 of 6 for Buick Bargain Days.  My guess is there were 6 of these Penthouse Webers that were given away during a sales promotion

@Cellar2ful Good catch! I don't believe they are able to do that. Isn't that why they have the "Make Offer" option? I doubt the other five will ever surface. Try running an ad in Michigan looking for one and see what happens.

@JEBIV I hear you. I deal in a lot of different items and have lost out on many items through the years due to shady dealings. I have made deals and shown up for the item only to find they sold the item to someone else. They always tell me someone else didn't know it was already sold and place the blame on them.

Yeah, I am surprised ebay didn’t catch that in the description...this wasn’t an “or best offer” auction and last time I checked, it is a no-no regarding ebay’s Policies to cancel an auction to make a sale (which we all know this isn’t the first and won’t be the last time for something like this to happen).  I have noticed a sad trend lately of a “pay to play” attitude.  It is fine when you are a collector and can afford this stuff to add to your collection, but when the flippers start getting ahold of everything and start charging obnoxious prices and taking advantage of collectors that makes things beyond frustrating.  There is a difference between true collectors and people who claim to be but are just in it for the cash and gouge and fleece everyone else who wants a shot at something rare or cool.  I am with @JEBIV on this one, integrity is taking a slide (and I don’t just mean with this auction).  Welp, guess I had some pent up feelings!  Stepping off the soap box, trying not to trip on the way down.

A couple years ago, ebay started charging when you ended an auction.  But, you basically pay the fee based on the bid price when you close the auction.  They portrayed it as something else, but basically it was most likely to grab their fee when this happens.

It is an alleged no-no, but it is kind of difficult for them to police.

After some of the comments on here, I'm guessing if the buyer is on here, the chances have gotten smaller that he will post additional pictures for us.

Hal

I hope he (or she) does!  Not because I want confrontation but because I want to see this grill!  I have no problems with people who can afford these kind of unicorns paying all the money in the world for them to add it to their collections.  It is when people who don’t really want them, get them with the intent to flip them for the most money possible that grinds my gears!

I have been seeing that a lot here lately as I've sat idly by and observed. I think there would need to be a pattern of several flips otherwise it might fall under "buyers remorse" or that someone else wanted it more than them.

@Bodhi, Great point!  I know I have been guilty of buyers remorse, who hasn’t?  The people I am talking about have shown patterns, they buy low and sell high, or buy high and sell really high.

I have a NIB olive color SJ that is pretty early.  Before anyone asks, NO it is not avocado colored.  I've compared it carefully with several and it is not even close.  Haven't heard of anyone talking about another olive colored one before.

There are a few out there. I call them Olives, but they were officially named "Sage". It's a really cool green gold color. The only other grill Sage was used on was the Gas Kettle of the same couple years they used it.

Nope, mine is not sage.  Mine is a true olive color like the pictured olives below.  Must be something very special.
