Honest question, as Iíve never had one, but do you guys find the gas start on the performer worth it? Do you use it often/every time?

In my opinion, not at all. Weber lighter cubes or paper towels with grease/cooking oil are fine for lighting a chimney.

In my opinion, Yes- itís worth having. Itís a convenience factor. I use the Gas Assist with wire charcoal baskets every time. Fires up with the push of a button- no cubes or paper required.

Is it worth it? Yes, definitely. But, it is not necessary. I wouldn't let lack of gas assist be a deal breaker.

I love the gas-assist feature.  Even if Iím using a different kettle, Iíll start coals in a basket on the Performer and then move it over to whatever kettle Iím using.

Iíve also inverted the ďconeĒ in my chimneys so the briquettes are lower, and I use the gas-assist to start them.

Not dissing the lighter cubes at all, I save them for CGA cooks away from home.

Man are you lucky. Wish I found first. I have been keeping mine alive since 1991. It is still the best. Enjoy!
