I picked up two bags earlier in the week. Havenít cooked with it yet, but just emptied a bag into my charcoal bin. There are some massive chunks.  Thinking this will be really good for my drum smoker. Might pock up a couple more bags if my Walmart has any left.

Does that charcoal bond keep the moisture out? I'm looking for something that's as water tight as possible.

@Vette10R. I bought a Rubbermaid 33 gallon garbage can that has one handle and wheels to store my charcoal.  It is watertight so far with a nice fitting lid. It holds 4 bags of Kingsford easily.   I canít remember if I got it at Loweís or Home Depot but it was one of the two.

It seems to work well. I have one for briquettes and one for lump and havenít noticed any moisture getting in.

Anybody who bought the KBB from HD for $9.88 notice the price tag on the shelf?  Depot typically makes their "sale" tags yellow I believe.  This was a regular white tag that just said $9.88 used to be $19.xx  I wonder if this is the "new" price and not just a sale?  All the ads implied it was only for 4 or 5 days so I guess I'll have to check the shelf again soon!
Its amazing how quickly one weber kettle turns into more than a dozen!  Always open to grabbing something interesting so let me know what you've got!

My buddy bought some and the pieces are big; and I like em big. See below for example.
I guess you haven't seen large chunks of lump yet.

Yes it's off a 40#  mesquite bag. So what's your opinion on it?  Other than for smoking, it's my everyday coal. It's very cheap year round and it doesn't impart much flavor as long as it's fully  lit and the grill well ventilated.

It's my go to lump, I get it from cash and carry.  Really cheap, I think $16 or so for the 40 lb bag.  It does seem to have a lot of rocks and non-burny chunks.  I accept this as it is so cheap.

I have been using mostly briquettes sonce getting into Weber.  I use lump with my BGE and sometimes the kettle or WSM.

I bought a couple of bags of the Western charcoal from Walmart and used it in my Kamado Joe today. I have to say that, for the price, it is a fantastic purchase. Burns clean, almost no popping, and no scent. It is a quality product and I plan on buying as many as I can from Walmart before they stop carrying it.

@bigssa

I havenít used lump much so when you say ďno scentĒ what do you refer to??  I mean to me an advantage to lump should be natural wood flavor scent??  Or am I way off base. Plan on grabbing a couple bags today

What I mean is that it is a clean burning charcoal that burns with almost no smoking and a very faint smell of burning charcoal. It is not odorless, but do not expect it to flavor your food. For that you should be using smoking wood.
