Title: Fathers Day Find- Red P Code MT
Post by: kettlebb on June 18, 2016, 09:26:16 AM
I just picked up a red P code MT I found on CL. A few concerns, maybe I'm too picky?  I'll post pics when I get home but there is some rust on the outside of the bowl. The lid seems to be in good shape. Really just need to clean it up, replace the one touch blades, and get some new wood handles. I guess the rust is what bothers me. What do you seasoned pros do about the rust on older kettles?

Carefully clean the rust off with 0000 steel wool. Rub some bacon grease on the exposed metal and get her hot.

Yeah that. Or if you can find close matching Hi Heat paint. But don't hold out too much hope for that. It'll burn off.
I tried the paint thing on my blue, and it lasted 1 heat cycle on the bowl. Lid is still OK for now.

Here are the pictures, I feel like I overpaid ($50) but I really wanted a redhead.

Man that's really nice. Sucks about the pits in the bowl, but it'll cook just fine. It'll look nearly good as new once cleaned up

and $50 is a fine price for a red mastertouch. I just sold a blue one for $100
