Anyone own the new 2014 14.5 WSM? How many hours can one of these consistently hold an average temperature of say... 250 degrees when fully loaded with charcoal?

No problem with 12 hours maybe 14 depends on how much you load it down.

This can be true but it also depends on wind, ambient temp, sunlight, phase of the moon, etc. Imo, 8hours easily. To get much more than than you need to be using small chunk lump, stuffing the charcoal base as much as possible, and it can't be too cold out.

I wonder if using the charcoal ring from an 18.5 WSM would get you longer range cook time?

If you want more charcoal headroom, only need the top grate, but still want to have that water pan for that cook, you can buy a few inches by moving the water pan to be on top of the lower grate and stack more charcoal onto the pile. I'm not sure if the 18" pan would even fit but I'm inclined to say it's too big.
