Title: ads
Post by: Troy on October 23, 2013, 08:04:55 AM
just a quick FYI

I'm experimenting with ads on the site. I'm hoping that ad revenue will help pay for the site's costs.

I don't want the ads to be obnoxious, intrusive, or in the way.
I'd prefer they be relevant.

Right now it's an experiment. Some of you may see ads, some may not, some may see more ads than others.

Please let me know if any ads are breaking the site in any way. Thanks!

i'm not sure what Cenegenics are, but the ads are typically targeted.
They'll be customized and tailored to you based on your internet browsing and search history.

Troy, have you looked into Amazon Affiliates? I'm an admin for another forum and I implemented it on our site. I have a tab at the top of the screen and I just let the members know if they wish to buy something on Amazon, to click that tab first and anything they purchase, the site gets a %. With the control panel, you can also make up relevant links to products that include the correct tag so the site gets the credit. Since August when I started it, we generated over $1600 in sales for Amazon which netted us about $90. It isn't huge numbers but it will help when the bills come due again.

I have seen ads for:
- an "age management company" (Cenegenics)
- a CMS company
- Diabetic recipes
- Lowes gas grills

Not sure what in my browsing history triggered those.  I think they were all triggered by content from WKC browsing.

Are there ads also being posted by WKC in to forum threads?
