Title: WKC T-shirt?
Post by: MartyG on August 17, 2012, 06:20:21 PM
Just an idea, and it needs work. I know enough about trademark law to imagine a cease and desist order might be imminent, but it was fun to see how it would look. Feedback is welcome!

Agreed - I would need to hand draw the text to match the style of the Weber name. Here's a variation that matched the original hat logo a little closer. Same font issue, but you get the idea.

Let's move forward with the design. Feel free to contact me for email address that accepts donations. It is the least you could do.

I like it, but I think it needs to be on the back of the shirt. Maybe a small one in front. We could also add lettering around it, like established in 2012.

How "original" do you have to be to be considered an original member?
Title: Re: WKC T-shirt?

I'd like to hear Casey's input.

If she'd post legible block of words, we might able to decipher her message.

If words are intimidating to some, maybe we should have a pictures only forum. I would consider that a minor concession. Please send donations to the same address.

OK, here's a pretty picture to keep the non-verbal among us satiated. Keep in mind this version CANNOT be done as it violates trademark law pretty clearly, but it's fun to mess around with lawyers once in a while right?

Oh, and this is just me, but if you have not been cloned recently I'd say you qualify as an original member. Well, unless you have been witnessed cooking on a PK or some such inferior non-Weber contraption that is.

I like this design! It'd be cool to have black on white (like this) and black shirt with a white logo too? Just some thoughts. Thanks for doing this, Marty! It looks cool!

Yup - all in good time. It's always best to do artwork in the "positive" until all the bugs are worked out. Colors, reversals etc. can easily be done later. Plenty more ideas where this came from, but it's nice to hear the positive vibes!

Troy, figure out how much the design will cost, approximately.  My personal preference is I would like the desgin on the back and a small design in the upper left corner.  Pocket t-shirts would be a plus plus plus!!

Figure this out, open up a Donate button and I'm ready to contribute to help the community with this project!!

I think this logo on the back and and some sort of small logo or the same logo but small on the front.  I wouldn't muck it up with too much other writing or other stuff... Sometimes simple is better, it is so nice and clean now.  Everyone is an original member, if your here your original!  It's awesome!  SOmeone print them now, where do I place my order?  As far as copyright some of the usual printer sites might have some sort of issues, but we can find someone to do this for sure, we are not selling them for profit, they are just shirts for 50 or 60 people....The logo had been altered for the original so it is not a direct copy....

Keep in mind I'm working on another logo behind the scenes that I think might be even more awesome! Agree simple is better with this one, and I have some clean-up to do before it's done, but I will get to it later today. Might just be that the club has more than one design. Choice is good!

Simple is better!  Double Ditto......but can we please have a pocket....NO I don't smoke!  Just like pockets, makes stuff easier to carry for gimps.

I hate pockets on a T-Shirt. There, I had to say it.
Larry, just use your 80's fanny pack..

I like the idea of a small logo on the front. My 2 Sense..

Pocket Shmocket. I can live with it either way. Now if you're talking Polo vs. T, that's another story! Here's both:

Still working a possible design for the back, but a logo (this one or the next) on the pocket (or where the pocket would be) might be enough. And yes, I think this logo in white on a black shirt would be great. I suppose you could even match your shirt to your grill! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/32306142@N07/7817932402/)

I like it! I just got this crazy idea about matching the shirt to your grill (s) a black shirt, red shirt, blue shirt, avacado shirt, brown shirt, yellow shirt, ok, ok a little out there.... white or black would be fine, I think. The polo/golf shirts would be great for work too. Lots of possibilities and ideas. Keep up the great work!  ;)

So what you're saying is that you were a homosexual in the 80's?

That logo needs to be on the back nice and big.  Forget that polo... I like the logo on the pocket.  It really needs to be on the back

i really appreciate everyone coming together to discuss the idea.

to be clear though - don't donate any money to anyone :)

if/when we do shirts, I'll build an easy way to show the designs and how everyone can purchase them.

Coming along well, and hoping to wrap up something soon. Too many ideas, too little time! I have an idea for a non-club shirt, and am working out supplier, costs etc before posting the design. What's the max anyone here is willing to pay for a T? (Pocket or not) Do you care if it's a USA made shirt? (They tend to be more expensive, but personally I like the idea.) Anyone itching for a long sleeve? (Summer is almost over...)

I would like a quality shirt, large enough that I can fit into it.  Can't you go to one of those cafe press places where you can get like 20 different items with the same logo?  Coffee mugs, and hats and sweatshirts and all that crap?  Then Larry can get his pocket, AJ can get a tye dye, Husker can get a red one....

I agree...

Probably because of people's work/time constraints to come up with design makes it difficult.  For now WKC seems to work like a non-profit which is great, because we are not bugged to buy stuff so often.  Maybe we could get a design down someday and give any profits to some sort of charity??

Has there been any discussion about putting the date the orginial Weber kettle were first made?  Somthing like "Since 1952" or just "1952".   Just a thought.

On a seperate note...has there been any talk ever of making a calender?  It would be cool to have collections for each month, or individual grills.  Example...for the month of December, I could take a picture with one of my green and red grills (xmas colors) cooking with a snow filled background.

Troy has several new designs of mine that he is considering, and a few ideas of his own I'm sure. We've both been mega-slammed with work for the past - well, forever - and it's taking time to pull together a solid direction. I'll reveal one of the designs I like for T-shirt next week when I get back from my current travel, and maybe I can help out getting it done. The Kettle Club chefs hat design needs a little work for make it suitable for printing. I'll work on that when I have time in the next couple weeks. I know Troy is thinking of a bigger plan that involves a site-makeover - maybe he can weigh in on the timing for all the pieces to come together.
