Title: WoooWeeee! New Grill Day!
Post by: Thundermtn on January 10, 2021, 09:05:13 AM
Hey everyone. First post here on the WKC, but I've been grilling on Weber grills for about twenty-five years.

I stop by the Weber website every once in a while and caught the Glen Blue bug on their second go round this year. My '05 Silver 22" is starting to go South with the lid handle rusting through. So it was time to get a replacement on deck, while keeping the 22" around until it finally gives up the ghost.

My buddy had a big maroon Weber from I'm guessing the late 60's that was perfect size for what I need now, I loved cooking on it, it would change color when you got it to temp too which was pretty awesome. I rolled the dice on whether my wife would get the 26" for me and showed it to her, leaving everything else off my wishlist. Anyway it arrived Christmas morning but the lid was damaged,..... bummer. This week I finally got a replacement from Weber. Second one was damaged too but not bad enough to worry a lot about.

My son and I put it together yesterday, man does it look great, I feel bad about cooking on it a little. It's bigger, stronger, taller, with better grates, love the bail lid holder, briquette baskets were a pleasant bonus I wasn't aware off. Only bad thing is that I need to trim bail threads inside about a quarter inch to clear the grill and it'll be perfect.

The first order of business is a rack of ribs that I'll update later. Good to meet you all and may you all have a great year of grilling. I'm off to fire it up right now!

Welcome from Plainfield Indiana.  Bluetiful Glen Blue you have there!  The 26 is a game changer.

Off and running!

Needs fewer coals than I thought it would for the size. It's running a little hotter than I need, but smoking on a new grill with outside temps in the 30's will take a few cooks to learn.

Already staining that good looking lid, but that's the price I'll have to pay for ribs. Another hour with adjustments for vent positioning and temp control and into oven they'll go.

That's better.

Full basket of coals, top and bottom opened just a crack, 15 minutes in, with soaked mesquite and hickory chips every 15 minutes.

One full basket with everything wide open in the 30's outside was holding @ 350° on the dot.

Back on the grill, 30 minutes to set the glaze and they will be ready.

Thanks everyone! They turned out really good, no leftovers tonight, and the 26" Glen Blue was easier and more fun than my 22". The taller grate height was probably my favorite change from my old Silver Series.

I suspect my real cooking temp is about 25° or so cooler than my lid temp, always went by hand/feels like guesstimate over the coals on my old one. Now I just need some BBQ party weather and load this thing up with a bunch of goodies.
