Title: Weber 6454 aluminum drip pans - discontinued?
Post by: Lightning on December 05, 2020, 04:27:46 PM
The subject pretty much asks the question, are the long rectangular drip pans that fit a 22 inch kettle underneath the rotisserie discontinued?

Nobody in my area seems to have them anymore, either I'm not searching effectively or they've been scraped off a bunch of websites including Weber's, and the few websites that do show them like Amazon or Home Depot all say "Not in stock, don't know when there'll be more" or "Not available in your area".  But, I haven't come across a formal discontinuation notice.

I have two small chickens to go on the rotisserie tomorrow, no Weber drip pans, and now I'm thinking about using two smaller ones, one beneath each bird.  If the Weber drip pans are discontinued, is there any other recommended long rectangular aluminum foil pan about the same size and shape that's recommended as a substitute?

I don't know if what you saw was old stock that hasn't sold yet.

In any event, I'm going to have to jury rig something for tomorrow because all the serious barbecue stores in the area are closed on Sundays it seems, then visit my usual spot and buy more or find out what the story is.  Honestly, I hate this whole shades of dealing with Kodak routine.

Home Depot shows them on line and in their stores:

Go to Costco. A 30 pack of lasagna pans is about 7-8 bucks.

It looks like the 6454 Pans (16.5 x 8.5 x 1.8 inches) have been replaced by the 6416 Pans (13.1 X 9.1 X 2 Inches).

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

The reason why I wanted the 6454 pans specifically was because they're perfectly sized to straddle a 22" kettle beneath the rotisserie which is perfect - exactly what you need - when you're cooking two chickens or ducks at once because they'd run beneath the whole length of the two birds on the spit.  Other aluminum pans work fine if you're doing one bird but aren't long enough to catch the drippings from two.

I ordered some of the 6454 pans from the local barbecue dealer before the holiday period and just got word from them now that the 6454 pans are in fact discontinued.  The next time I cook two chickens in one go I'm going to have to experiment with using two smaller pans laid back to back centred under each bird and maybe space those out a bit more, and divide the roasted potatoes up into a batch for each pan or something.

So that's it for that.  Any of those pans you find out there now are old stock.

Did you ever think of making your own?  A 2x10 x 16 might be a great form to wrap foil around. Just a thought.

Thank you.

Considering that we use these as just simple drip pans, this could be an inexpensive way to do it.
