Title: A labor of love comes to fruition.
Post by: Jules V. on October 28, 2020, 02:40:52 PM
Probably the most intensive and challenging mod I've done. Stainless popcorn kettle bowl and a full stainless frame. Could've made the table larger but the idea was to make it as compact as possible.
Comes complete with 2 different height cooking grate, 2  different height charcoal grate and a couple of probe ports.

Well done Jules! What kind of tools did you have handy for the build? A welder, drill press, grinders, and cut off tools come to mind.  Wondered if you had access to a sheet metal bender and a few other things.

Don't need much talent for these things.  Much easier to put together than it looks. There are quite a bit of different pieces/parts so it can get tedious if you're not into it.  I find it a very enjoyable hobby so it's no big deal.

I get by with a very limited arsenal of tools. Angle/die grinder, rotary tools, drills, wrenches, hammer and that's pretty much it. Don't even own a drill press or bench grinder. For the welding, i used a coworker's welder. Actually my first time doing any welding. Overheated/melted a few spots but the tubes are quite thick at 3/16" so it's very forgiving. Spent about an hour with the actual welding but already spent more than 3 hours grinding/sanding the joints and still have a long way to go.
