I am so so happy to see this released!  Had been shopping and was torn between the out of stock crate and barrel blue performer deluxe, and a more “temporary” solution. This looks like a keeper!

Just need to get a dedicated prep table now.

Just need to get a dedicated prep table now.

The plastic Weber side table has a curve that fits the 26, you just have to drill a couple holes for legs to make it stand a bit taller. Best part is the performer cover fits the 26 with side table.

I managed to get an order in earlier in the day.  As much as getting a "limited" grill would be cool, I really have no interest in selling one.  Hell if it were too rare I wouldn't want to get it dirty.  I hope everyone here at WKC that wanted one gets one.

I just got off the phone and was able to place an order. It took a little sweet talking to get it done. She told me that they were only available thru Weber.com and I said that a few guys were saying that the were able to order over the phone. She also said that there were only 15 in stock according to her computer. We'll see if it happens. Just checked the website and they show available again.

I can't imagine that that would make a change over at the factory and then have the blast from the past story just to sell a few hundred. From the shortage of black 26s it seems they had to stop one for the other.

Selling them out in hrs... Some exec is not going to let all those extra sales slip away.

I was told they are expecting more inventory next week, so if they are out you could still place an order to have a spot when they get more in. Rep seemed pretty sure of it, didn't seem as clueless as the one I got last night. Hope this works for any of us that missed the initial release.

Looks great!

Do all modern 26ers have a second set of leg sockets to hold the ash pan?

Does anyone know if you order from Weber if you need to sign for it when it arrives via FedEx? This grill being $400 is why I ask. I live with some immunocompromised individuals so I try and limit my exposure to others as much as I can.

It shouldn’t.  FedEx isn’t even requiring actual signatures for alcohol shipments right now.

Thanks for the response! USPS will sign for you from a distance if you answer your door and give them the verbal go ahead. But I purchased a knife and the guy shipped via FedEx and required a signature and some punk kid came up in my face and asked me to sign and I just told him to sign for me and set it on the bench.

Weber does a great job of selling the kettle by making it available and then making it unavailable and then start the process all over again.
Some people will buy it period. But for others that are on the fence and not sure this unknown gets them motivated enough to buy it now. Weber’s smart.

I think you just had the wire frame and the bar that connects to the leg?

I imagine you would need to bend the wire frame out slightly out of square so the tabs would fit the kettle correctly.  The lower bar that connects to the leg would also probably need to be replace with something longer or extended.  Then the table would need to be made bigger so it wouldn't show the out of square frame and the bowl curve would be custom.

Another idea that someone in the mods section came up with was taking an old performer frame and turning it into a side table that slides up next to the kettle.  Again that would be fairly custom with a table and some bar extensions to make it wide enough to slide a 26er up to it.
I recently acquired hardware for a sidekick. Will that fit on the 26?

I might check on it, this happened to me when I ordered the spring green kettle a month ago. My order was in limbo and the warehouse never received it, got it after a month. They made sure to include some free accessories but it was still a bit annoying. Order still doesn't come up as shipped on my history.

I would'nt put to much stock in the shipping dates. I think FedEx just generates that based on when the info was sent out. I've recently had a few warranty items shipped and they showed up 4-5 days after FedEx said they would.

Mine hasn’t shipped out either. I’m sure I’m in the same boat. Ordered Friday evening after I thought they were gone for good, but checked back and it said Available so I went for it.

I just hope they don’t hurry too much and sacrifice QC. I’d rather them take their time.

Do you feel that the vent shape makes that much of a difference? I have both a 22” OTG and a newer master touch, and I haven’t noticed much of a difference in my ability to control temps with either vent design.

I haven't played with it much, but the P shape can give you slightly more temperature control.

I wouldnt doubt if they eventually make it over to the 26 but why change it for this run? It clearly is going to sell itself on the color alone.  Making the change now would just be an unnecessary expense.

After the glen blue is sold and gone that leaves them the opportunity to update/rework the 26er and give motivation for guys like us to purchase ANOTHER kettle. :p

I like it for the convenience of not having to fuss too much with the vents during low and slow cooks.  I do feel i can get better control with the P vents on my MT.

I doubt it would've been an extra expense for Weber.  They already have the die, machining, tools, and process in place to cut the P vents

More indoor pics. It’s kind of rainy here.

Even with the bent handle she is beautiful. It has some interesting colors for the handle print and the triangle. It’s kind of a light gunmetal finish if that makes sense. I’d have to see it outside.

The finish is very smooth like the ivory.

Now we have to deal with customer service but overall really happy with this one.

Oh by the way I’ve never had a new kettle that was perfectly round. The lid rocks one way but if I rotate it 90 degrees it sits fine. I usually just deal with it but being a 26er it might leak more than others.

What do you guys do for this ? My 18” WSM was the worst and I have it the bear hug treatment.

That’s the funniest part. The box was not damaged at all. The handle was inserted in the corner cardboard support like it should be. I meant to check if the missing porcelain was in the box.

There’s not even a dent in the inside packaging.

My wife has spotted at least two on her Facebook kettle club that had damage by the handle. It’s not a defect but it’s actually bent somehow and the porcelain chipped off.

What’s the significance with spin lines?
Back in the day, when the bowls were made, the steel disc was put on something like a lathe, It spun around and a tool basically pushed the steel disc into the shape.

Now basically they stick the piece of steel into a die and stamp it into the bowl or lid shape.

I’d get a replacement.  That’s not really worthy of your $400 imho.  The lack of blue inside a leg socket or on the handle is actually fairly normal, even on older kettles.  The drip line off the handle and chips on the ash bucket tabs are just bad quality control to me.

I’m beginning to have Red LE flashbacks.....sorry to those that received these kettles with defects. I’m 100% confident that Weber will make it right. They’ve always taken care of me and they stand behind their products!!! Best of luck to you all

Also mine came with the sweeps already attached. Maybe I’m just a rookie at putting together newer model kettles but that made it almost impossible to put the ash bucket ring on. I tried sliding the ring on over the sweeps handle but if I went any further and really tried to force the ring onto the bowl, I most definitely would have scratched the hell out of the bowl, so I wound up taking the sweeps off to put the ring on, then put the sweeps and handle back on. Maybe I’m showing my inexperience but that was my experience

I’m happy to say my Glen Blue arrived and it’s friggin beautiful!  I feel fortunate that it arrived in good shape.  Here she is amongst my Gen1 Master Touch and my Ranch.  And of course there's the picture with covers so she doesn't draw my wife's attention.  ;D

For those who might be wondering, I had a set of wheels from a red limited edition that I never used.  I figured I'd do something different since I don't have anything more like the original wheels.  Maybe someday.

This is my 1st time assembling a taco/ pop leg grill. The legs were a nuisance. PAM saved the day. The front leg nipple is buried somewhere within the tube and I'm leaving it. :)
I've always liked the Gen2 Performer wheels and I had a new extra pair, and I stuck a Zav on the front. Taco is on for now.

Really like those wheels.  I was considering going with those too, but I went with the all blacks from a limited edition red that I already had.  Otherwise, I would have gone with the Gen2 Performer wheels.  Very sharp!

For everyone new to taco handles... Please do yourself a favor and replace the hardware with a fender washer on both sides top and bottom of lid and a keps nut. Especially with the heavy 26 lid. Or else you'll be kicking yourself when the porcelain pops off. I use a 1 1/4" OD x 1/4" ID stainless washer on both sides of lid with 1/4-20 stainless keps nut on all my taco handles. Very secure.

Really like the look of the wheels ! I never complain about Weber design but one of my least favorite things are the solid hubcaps. They look so much better with the whitewall look. Somebody here put vintage whites on and it looked fantastic.

I also had the problem with losing a leg pin. I realized watching some videos that this a new procedure. When I assembled my wife’s ivory they had us put the spring clip in the leg first. Now the spring clip goes in the socket first. Well it spun in there and now the pin is not locked. No big deal since I have to take it apart if we get a replacement bowl.

Missing a little paint on the ash bucket tabs is a non issue to me also. They probably are all going to have that, it’s more than likely part of the baking process.

Unpacked and assembled mine last night.  The box looked perfect and I unpacked it carefully and found a dime sized porcelain pop on the lid.  Sigh.  Also the ash sweep was installed with the handle on the left side instead of the right which I found out after installing the ash can holder and legs and turned it upright.  No biggie there, took it back apart and corrected - all good.  Similar missing blue porcelain on the ash bucket tabs, but appears to be black porcelain, not bare metal so no biggie for me.  Grates don't seem to touch all 4 supports, so there's a bit of teeter totter there, maybe I will try to adjust them gingerly.  Lid doesn't sit flat on the bowl, maybe the new replacement lid will.  Yeah, I'm picky I guess but kinda wanted it to be perfect out of the box.  Oh it does have some blue over spray in a couple of places inside the bowl which adds character IMO.  Put the original wheels on, but looking for an alternative.  I've seen some neat ideas here and on FB.

Registered it and contacted Weber this morning and they are sending me a new lid when they are in stock - 7/29/20 projected.  Got a Slow N Sear XL which fits nicely, wood handles from Marty ordered with my "Handle" engraved (pun intended) and vent tabs and rollers coming from River City.  Looking forward to getting all completed so I can have my first cook on a 26"!

Mine arrives today so fingers crossed that it is in mint condition.

It really speeds the process up if you register the grill online before calling in IME.  I called the Weber 800 number this morning at around 8:20, went to the warranty claims which I think is option 4, then used the call back feature by pressing 2.  An agent called me back in about 30 minutes.  I told him the problem, he sent me an email request for a proof of damage picture and I responded to the email while on the phone and he had an order in for a replacement lid in just a few minutes.  Easy process this way and I received a confirmation email that the lid is ordered.

I have been on the phone with Weber 3 times in the last 2 months all them took numerous attempts and looooong wait times. I had to specifically ask for free shipping on a $160 order... was incorrectly told an issue I had wasn't covered and once was on hold for 2 hrs and then the call ended.

Yesterday I submitted 2 warranty claims online one I mentioned above one new one, attached the pics when I submitted. Just got an email for each issue this hr with confirmation that they are covered and shipping.

I Would definitely go online. Just be sure you get the email saying it was submitted. Normally I just call if I need anything but looks like I will be using the online form going forward.

I did both, but finished online before I was ever connected. Don't waste your time on the phone. The website process works great. You'll get an email shortly after the claim is received. Just make sure you get the "your claim was successfully entered" (or whatever it says) after you hit the SUBMIT button.

Noticing on FB that the bowl handles on these are not centered with the front leg, but a bit to the right.  This is my first 26" so I don't know if that's normal or not.  Might be handy when pulling the grill right handed - walking forward with the grill behind you.  Mine is the same as what I'm seeing.

So I got mine and with exception to attaching the lid handle it is assembled.  I need to get some fender washers to give it a good grip on the lid.

I did not have any issues with my kettle.  There were little tiny blemishes at the bottom where the bucket attaches, but i think this is either from rubbing against the grates in the box or just something that happens in manufacturing.  Personally I just dabbed some high heat paint on those spots for rust prevention and no one will ever see it. I also noticed there was some spots under the rim of the bowl where the blue didn't cover, but again it wasn't bare metal and no one will ever see it.  The legs were a bit of a bear to get into the sockets but this might be a good thing because it seems pretty solid and not wobbly.  Just make sure you assemble on a nice blanket, mattress, or etc.

I want to remind everyone that those with chips and dings that it has nothing to do with the overall quality of the grill, but is most likely just something that is going to happen when packing and shipping a large kettle.  This is probably Webers largest ship out in a week with a custom color so you are naturally going to see more of it now than in the past with everyone showing their new kettles as soon as they get them in this short window of time.  My spring green came with a chip and blemish, but Weber warranties things well. Just try not to nit pick too much everyone. The last thing we want is Weber getting tired of us nit picking and to have them be less than awesome with claims or stop with the new colors all together.

As for the quality and look of this grill it is magnificent. The color is bright and vibrant and the spray on the glen blue color looks like it was done right.  I have a red LE and this is definitely NOT like that.  So if you are on the fence about ordering you need to clearly get on the BUY IT side of the fence. Otherwise you will grilling with myself or another WKCer and doing face palms the whole time because you could have ordered but didn't.

My handle appeared to be center.  It could be the camera angle or the way the legs are into the sockets needing a little twist or bend.  I noticed one of my rear legs didn't look perfectly straight, but after getting it assembled it kind of corrected itself.

Doesnt look normal to me. Looks cattywompus. Weber.com top down view of the black 26 grill clearly shows the front leg through the handle centered. On GB 26er it’s mysteriously not seen. Was this photoshopped out to hide a production flaw?

Still waiting on mine. Scheduled delivery is today, but that seems highly unlikely, as tracking shows it in the middle of freaking nowhere in Minnesota as of a couple hours ago. This is some of the weirder shipping activity I’ve seen for something I’ve ordered before; it apparently spent 4 days going in a circle in Illinois.

I figure I’ll get it eventually, but if the tracking is accurate, I’ll be surprised if it shows up before August

Title: Disappointed
Post by: Weberguy on July 25, 2020, 09:02:20 AM
I just opened the box and am very diasappointed with major paint defects around both sides of the handle on the bowl (for some reason, I can't post a picture; too large?).  I've seen quite a bit of irregularities around the internet with these.  I don't understand how so many of these get sent out damaged.  I've already registered the grill, put in my claim and within minutes they responded and ordered a new bowl.  However, the bowl is not currently available, so who knows?  Hopefully, they'll send me a replacement bowl soon.  Customer service is world-class, but it seems as though quality control is abysmal, from what I've seen and experienced.  I once ordered a replacement lid for my WSCG and the one they sent had a large dent in it.  That required a third lid.  They happily send them, but it's very disappointing and a hassle to continually have to contact customer service about poor quality.

i'd love for someone to actually gather the numbers before declaring quality control issues.
Anyone have any idea how many have shipped?

I know its easy to fall prey to the "My grill is broken. Your grill is broken. ALL THE GRILLS MUST BE BROKEN!" mentality, but it's anecdotal and not accurate or healthy.

I’ve had numerous interactions regarding Weber grills, both new and almost new.  There is no other company I’ve had to deal with as many times about quality issues, and I’m a loyal brand guy for more brands than Weber.  Even if it were just mine, it’s too many because it left the factory in that condition.  I’m not considering shipping damage.  I just don’t see how mine could have left the factory in such condition.  It doesn’t matter how many; NOT one should leave the factory with paint deficits.

i'm fine with your standards and your philosophy on brands and quality, sounds like a perfect world you're living in.

I'm just saying it's super common for us Weber enthusiasts to speak of issues as a catastrophic failure and tell a narrative of "all the grills are bad" because "it's all I see"

Well earlier this week I ordered a bunch of parts to make a copper mastertouch. I asked about the blue and was told that yes, I could put an order in, and that I would get it.  Perhaps this was a customer service rep being nice to me, I don't know....  I'll try to order one at the end of the month when the new batch comes. We'll see what happens

Hey, don't get me wrong, I love Weber products.  That's why I'm here.  I have absolutely no need for another 26" kettle, but I ordered glen blue because of the historic and iconic nature of the color.  And again, I think their customer service is awesome.  I just don't understand how a $400 item leaves the factory with blatant and obvious defects. I saw pictures of some others that were even more egregious than mine.  It's very frustrating and disappointing to open up the box and I have to wait because the bowl is not available now.

Here is my thought process on ther damaged 26'rs.

First of all,  it is boxed in a large cumbersome box.  A large cumbersome box that weighs 63 pounds.

What's the easiest way to move that box around?  On its SIDE.

The further these boxes have to travel,  the more they are handled by diffrent people.

Just because the box doesn't get damaged,  doesn't mean someone along the line didn't drop it, or have it slip out of their hands.

Take a brand new 22" still in the box, and drop it on its side a couple times,  and tell me it's gonna come out of the box perfect.

Hell, take a vintage kettle and put it packed in that same box, with the Weber packaging.... I bet it would get damaged just the same.

Now add the fact that the 26'r weighs 63 pounds shipped,  when that drop / mishandle happens,  that grill is gonna get DAMAGED.

A drop on the flat side won't neccesarily damage the box.

I feel most of the defects are a result of shipping.  [emoji2369]

Attached is a pic of mine when it was delivered..... on its side.

I feel pretty confident that 99% of these grills that had to be handled by 1 person,  it was handled on its side,  where the actual grill sits closest to the cardboard box.

I heard a THUNK! on the front porch when my GB was delivered, and the box was on its side.

The damage was shown in pics above (pg.11)- a ding w/ porcelain loss on the lid rim- which could have happened during shipping, although no porcelain bits were found in the box.

As with the controversy during the release of the Smokefire Pellet grill, who knows what the % of miscues really is?

As long as they "happily" honor the warranty, I'm fine.

Speaking of which, do I recall Weber was reluctant to replace some of the defected Red LEs from a couple years ago?

Finally got mine! A few small imperfections upon first glance; not sure it’s worth the warranty claim.

All of the leg sockets and ash holder tabs have chips in the porcelain on the ends. And there is a small dent/missing porcelain chunk on the underside of the bowl rim. Not visible from the top.

So: get some high temp paint and dab those small problem areas to seal them? Or request a new bowl?

If it is minimal on the tabs/leg sockets I would just get some high heat paint and dab some paint on two or three times.  No one will probably ever see it and it seems fairly common.  As for the underside of the bowl it is kinda up to you and hard to say without seeing it personally.  The underside of the bowl rim on mine had a few spots were the blue didn't cover completely, but it wasn't bare metal so I wasn't concerned.

I use stainless steel mixing bowls for ash pans, I’ve been using them for over 11 years now, they work grate.
18” = four quart,  diameter at top lip is 10-5/8”
22” = eight quart,  diameter at top lip is 13-3/8”

Pulled everything out to assemble, and find that it’s missing the front leg entirely. So that kind of puts a damper on things. Also the lid vent won’t close at all because the holes have really rough and sharp ridges where they were stamped/cut/whatever and the damper hangs up on them.

Warranty form, here I come...

I was so excited to get a Glen Blue 26er.  But then it arrived.  The other day after a very trying summer...which I won't go into here...I got back and decided to put it together on Sunday.

I'm going to make this brief.  One of the brackets on the bowl that holds the ash pan was bent.  The gap where the ring was supposed to be was so small I couldn't get the tab through.  Only two of the the three tabs on the ring would go through.  Then I noticed a large area of porcelain missing under the lip of the bowl.  It wasn't in a noticeable area, but it was there.

I filed a claim with pics via the Weber site after registering the grill.  There are no bowls available at the moment, so I'm in limbo.  Today, just for kicks, I decided to put the taco handle on the lid.  I apparently never looked at it all that closely on Sunday in my original excitement to have a Glen Blue 26er.  Sure enough, there's a quarter-third inch spot of missing porcelain on the side.  So very frustrated, so I put in another request to Weber customer service today.  I don't want to take advantage, and I have seen other's posts on here about problems, but I hope Weber makes this right as I want them to keep making cool new colors...but at the same time, I want them to be done right the first time.

I filed a claim. I’m so happy with the grill, I feel guilty. My lid was scuffed and I found rust around the grate straps during unboxing. Weber is sending me a new bowl and lid. Weber’s customer service is by far the best compared to any company. The bowl may not be a huge deal to many people but I’d rather know for $400 I got a spare bowl in the garage if this one rust through. I hope the Glen Blue is just the beginning.

I really do not think that is rust around the grate straps.  I believe it is just a light coat of porcelain transitioning to bare metal because it is a tricky area to spray 100% coverage without globbing tons of porcelain around the straps.  It doesn't appear to be out of the ordinary because I found similar spots on my glen blue 26 bowl and on a clean spring green 22 bowl. I have had the spring green since December and if it was rust I figure it would have affected the bare metal around that transition area by now.  I wouldnt doubt if someone with a NIB 70s kettle would find a similar spray pattern even back then. I am not criticizing anyone who was genuinely concerned by this, but I bet if everyone looks at their kettles a very large percentage of them will find something similar and it is very likely normal.

The grate straps will always be a weakness of the kettle even with 100% coverage unless they modify the bowl design to work like the ranch with a lip securing the grates rather than a strap.  My advice would be to brush a bit of olive oil around your straps to treat any small amounts of bare metal and get to cooking.

I get it when there are obvious issues of chips and blemishes on a kettle as I have received a kettle in the past with these issues.  However, I feel like all of the pictures and hype of this kettle all within a short period of time has every single person taking a magnifying glass to every square inch of the kettle.  I mean I would love to pretend that my personal kettle was sprayed to perfection by the Michelangelo of porcelain spraying, but at the end of the day it is that guy Steve on the assembly line. Steve may not be Michelangelo, but he still did a hell of a job in making a beautiful kettle.

I hear ya. It’s definitely oxidized metal. Weber didn’t like it either apparently or they wouldn’t have offered to send a new bowl. And honestly I would have been fine with that decision. I questioned it while filing my warranty claim for the lid and damaged leg. Maybe Steve was having a bad day because the NIB performer bowl I have in the garage has a lot better coverage under the grate strap.

When did the handle bracket lose those 2 nips that helped stabilize it? Was there a handle change or something? These dang newfangled grills have me all atwitter. Or...is my bowl flawed???!!! :/

That’s how they come.   The standard handles are like clamshells and don’t need nubs.

Got mine! Made some slight adjustments - Topper and Weber in-lay @zavod44 handles, the LE thermo bezzle, wide profile white wall wheels, and an older style ash pan.  8)

I also added the LE bezel to mine, but Bob beat me to it. [emoji14] Looks good man!

FYI if anyone else is looking to do this mine required making the small slot that keeps the thermometer up right a little wider on the LE bezel.  You can use a small drill bit or file to widen it out slightly.

@Bob BQ did you use a fireplace handle on top?

@Bob BQ did you use a fireplace handle on top?

@Jason - Absolutely!  It requires a little persuasion to fit on the taco, and you need to be extra careful when tightening it, but I like the look... and the fact that I can use my older @zavod44 handles.

Hey, so I’ve been waiting for my replacement wheels to arrive before assembling the grill, and what do you all recommend for fixing the taco handle? I mean, I’ve seen some of you use washers and different nuts in order to better protect the porcelain. I haven’t been able to go to the hardware store to find anything (isolation) so specific sizes would help so that I can order them online.

Lowbrass - looks grate! Question on your chimneys, what's going on with the double stack? Haven't seen that before.

When your chimney is taller your charcoal lights faster.  Some people will make custom chimneys 2 feet tall.  A lot of people just throw a spare on top of the one they have lit.

Little tweaks: handle strap, wood, ash bucket, and left the hub caps off
