Title: Questions regarding table
Post by: Blackrobe on April 28, 2020, 06:22:51 PM
Hello, I’m enjoying your tables. Have some questions before I tackle this project soon.

I have an original 22” weber kettle, brand new.

Are there any plans out there via the web for a table you have used that you would endorse to someone else? Any good finds?

Next question is about heat protection. On many of the tables I see online, the grill is in the table. I could probably just build one on my own, but what do people use as a heat guard in the circle of wood where the kettle is placed into the table?? I assume a heat guard is used, but I have no idea what to look for or use.

I hope my questions make sense, thanks in advance.

I was thinking of IN table.

Although side table could be an option if people who have them want to chime in.

I’m open to suggestions.
Thanks.

I built a table and used sheet metal where the bowl lines up with the counter top. I also put tiles on the counter top and aluminum below the bowl. If I can figure out how to post pictures, i can show you.

Do you think that stone is rough on the porcelain?

Maybe, maybe not as it mentions a heat resistant cushioning gasket the bowl appears to rest on giving a custom fit appearance.  If you find some brackets and offset your hole to bowl dimension enough you likely wouldn't have an issue with heat to wood but you will have a decent gap.

Being frugal I would likely just cut a larger opening and live with a gap and have a floating looking bowl.

I have a 3/4 inch gap between my bowl and the counter top, it works well the big pain was cutting the tiles in an arc, but once that was done the finished product looks good and works well. I have no issues with heat build up on the counter top

This is a stock photo of the Yellawood table Home Depot carries. I stained it and used a wood stove door gasket glued around the edge of the table cutout. There's still about 1/2" gap between grill and gasket. The table gets warm but nowhere near enough to burn.

Thanks, I've certainly enjoyed them. I originally planned to paint and stain to match the porch, but still haven't done so

I have two tables one with a heat shield and one with out... 1/2 gap between the hole and the kettle.  I have been cooking on it for almost 3 years 3 or 4 times a week no issues.  "Does your table ever catch on fire" is the most asked question on my YouTube Channel.

In this video I actually Take out the kettle and show how it looks on the inside of the hole where the kettle sets.  Skip ahead to the 1:40 mark to see that.
