Title: Frozen since 02/2018...?
Post by: Mosca on March 21, 2020, 08:49:08 AM
I found a SRF Black grade teres major roast in the bottom of my freezer, looking at my order history I’ve had it since 02/2018. It worked its way down to the bottom and I forgot about it... oh, well.

I defrosted it and it looks a nice, deep red. I haven’t opened it to smell it yet, but assuming no off odors, do you think it will still be okay? I messaged SRF, but they have a vested interest in saying no, not because of selling another one but because conservative recommendations for frozen beef is 6 months, I believe.

If it's properly vac-sealed then it's still good. I have stuff in my freezer at least that old and I aint skeered.

Well, smoke it and eat it. I would think if it’s bad, or just weirded out, that will come out in the cook.

Vac sealed? I’d eat it, no problem. Without vacseal that piece of meat would be freezer burned and smell stale and you’d detect it right away
