Made up my version of a Malory cast grate today. Looking forward to seasoning it this weekend!
Made from 3/8 thick carbon steel and a ring on the bottom, totals 3/4 thick around the outside.

@PKSullivan , there is a frame underneath the flip up grate that allows it to lean on the top edge of the middle and hook on the bottom with a small tab that catches.

How did the seasoning go on the grates?
-
That is truely awesome! How did you hinge the sides?

Hey yall, the seasoning went excellent. Heres a pic. The hinge is built into the design, no hinge pins etc. the flip up doors also are removable/ like a lift off style. Opening is bigger than normal to make adding or re-arranging fuel to a burning fire easier. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200414/c94e9c24d1ae4bf6b903c5988ec5066c.jpg)

Very cool!
For inquiring minds, check out Malory or Napoleon CI grates. They have the exact same sides detachable hinging design.

Thanks green web!! True, they do have similar. But mine is steel, not cast iron. Also, they dont offer this for the WKC die hards!!!!
Keep your eyes open for these to be offered in the for sale area of WKC forums. Im kicking around making and shipping these if there is enough interest.

Very true! I knew it was carbon steel grate which might have some advantage over cast iron grates. Custom logo make it all that more appealing. Nice work.
-
I'd get one for sure - wow!
-
That's amazing. Was it really cast? Or maybe waterjet / mill? Looks totally high-end. Would love to see how it puts marks on a nice porterhouse.
-
andrewshrm Correct, it is laser cut on a CNC laser. It does a really nice job putting marks on steaks when you crank the heat up. Strangely, I havent taken any pictures! I guess I get get so excited to eat a beautiful steak I forget that part!

I'd burn that WKC into all of my meat!
-
Ordered from @Lilyankee and he hand delivered by the craftsman himself recently. (Found out we only live 15 minutes apart)
These grates are beasts and just plain fantastic to look at! I had a chance last night to finally season up my 22 Lilyankee cooking grate.
I also had a charcoal grate cut, and a WKC 26 cooking grate that I need to pick up one of these days.
Zoom in and check out engraving that he did underneath the grate. So cool!
Fantastic work Eric!! I love everything you made for me.

Pretty cool. I'd be interested in a non-branded/logo'd one with just plain bars in the center.
What do these weigh?
-
I just scaled up Lilyankee grates and compared with a set of craycorts I found in a grill I just picked up.
22 Lilyankee grates with all inserts in weighed in at 15.8 lbs.
22 craycorts with all 4 inserts weighed in at 17.9 lbs.

I do have a small pile of parts to make the WKC Grates. I'll send you a message
