Title: Ash sweeps ssp
Post by: Troy1620 on July 22, 2019, 01:11:33 PM
I want to replace the ash sweeps on a ssp. I have a broken wingnut. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

It is likely rusted into a solid piece. I would try a rust removal method.  I have had great luck with evaporust.  You will likely need to take the aluminum ring off of the legs, find a 3 gallon utility pan or something similar and just let it sit in the solution.  It works best to remove as much rust as you can before hand. It won't damage the bowl so long as the bowl isn't badly rusted.

Take a Dremel tool and cut the rod flush on each side of the hex nut. That is what is holding it in place. Once the rod is cut on both sides, the nut should fall through the bowl with a tap from a rubber mallet. Cut the side opposite the handle first.
