I've parted out several Weber gas grills over the years and I have a surplus of stainless tool hooks from the Genesis x000 series.
Two of them were really bent, so I had no qualms about experimenting with them. The tools I used to bend these into their new shape were
needle-nose pliers
large vice-grips
channel-lock pliers
a screwdriver
Here's a picture of a stock tool hook, versus the kettle hooks I've made:

Lots of angles are needed to perform the following:
1) Clip on to the edge of the kettle with just enough resistance so you don't damage the porcelain, but they need to stay in place as you put the lid on and off during the cook
2) Clear the grate
3) The shape of the clip must place pressure on both the inside and outside of the kettle so that when a tool is hanging from it, the hook does not fall off

Each one took a while to make by hand, and you can see that they are not shaped exactly alike, but they are close enough. They work pretty well, too. The best part, of course, is that they were free. There are kettle tool hooks on the market, but I haven't seen too many in stainless.
