Title: Whole hog on ranch?
Post by: crowderjd on August 04, 2018, 08:23:30 AM
Last night I was asked by my friend whether I could do a whole hog on my Ranch for my godson's first birthday party.  Now, the hog we are talking about is this from Costco business:

I have seen these at our Vegas Costco business center, and I've seen them vary in size from 32-50lbs.  I think I'd like to do this if possible, but I was wondering if anyone here has ever attempted it.  This party would be around September 26th, so no huge rush, but I would want to be sure it's possible before I made a firm commitment.  Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

Of course it's been done before. Not by me though.

The best guys to ask are the Aussies - they have done some epic ranch mods for just this purpose. @Golly and @Hogsy is a good place to start. Check out this thread:

I have never done a whole hog. But I will drive to Nevada and help you do this.

Unless you will make a hog like on the picture (which is quite small - IMHO not more than 30-35 lbs), this might be challenging. For the best result you need to turn it and by a big hog it's rather difficult.
