Title: Hunsaker inspired heat diffuser/flavorizer.
Post by: Jules V. on May 31, 2018, 01:20:36 PM
After  constantly seeing @swamprb raving about about the  virtues of the hunsaker vortex system, i finally got into action. Being cheap and poor as i am, i decided to fabricate my own version.  Went with a much larger diffuser for added flexibility.  Made it out of 16 gauge ss and it's 18" in diameter. The design of the flaps really do an amazing  job of evenly circulating the smoke/heat.  Smoke rises up in a slight  clockwise circular motion. Hot spots are therefore minimized.  A very unexpected benefit  is that for high heat grilling, it acts as a  flavorizer. Like on  a gasser, some of the drippings will still get past through it but a much lesser extent compare to not having a flavorizer at all.

I love seeing different ideas for mods. I want to try the Hunsaker basket in my 22” Cajun Bandit and my 18” WSM.
