I just use the LavaLock 1/2" Nomex High temp adhesive backed tape on the inside brim of the lid

I've not tried any gasket kits. With kettles I don't think it's needed. Cook with them and you'll get a "natural " seal. Doesn't need to be air tight.

Its the real deal! I've used the FireBlack self adhesive on various drum and pellet projects and its holding up just fine thank you!

I used the 1/2 self adhesive on my smoker works great, enough to wanto clean the kettle and install.

Yes, I have RTV + gasket on my kettle, helps keep the smoke in and the wind out.
-
i have also used just their adhesive backed tape, it does make a difference. - Particularly on a 22.5 kettle from craigslist, i don't know what the heck they did to the lid when it obviously got dropped multiple times, but before I put the tape on, i could not shut down the coals after cooking. I futzed with it with pliers, an anvil, brass hammer, etc. and could not seem to get the lid's rim surface where I wanted it. The tape has solved that.

Some WSM's and kettles are leakier than others and the self adhesive nomex works great. You got it now go on and use it.

I ordered two kits for my two WSM's this summer to seal the door and the lids.
I followed the direction exactly and the results were the same for both..
the gaskets sealed the doors perfectly and fell of the top lip after the first smoke!!!

I've bought that gasket kit for my 22 WSM and love it. Got about 30 cooks on it with the gaskets with nothing but great results.

These guys are great and fast shippers. I have 3-22" and 4 Smoky Joes. They all have the gasket on them.

I’ve got this on my kettle too, no longer pours smoke out of the lid seal and have 25 smokes and 100 cooks with it and not a single issue

Does anyone use the red "high temp" Permatex (#81160) or the Ultra (82180) RTV? The are 100% silicone and good to 600*F and 500*F respectively.
