Title: ~KP Clone v1.0~ *All fire up and nothing to cook!*
Post by: swamprb on July 02, 2016, 08:46:03 PM
OK here it is, still a work in progress, but it does get HOT!

I cut out the bottom of a steel drum, used a barrel top lock to secure it to a "P" 3 wheeler.

Cut a rustbucket lid missing the handle and pop riveted to the "P" lid. There is a 3/8" gap between the 2 lids. (kind of a Piedmont pan mod)

Bolted a repurposed concrete saw blade to a top grate to simulate a Baking Steel mod.

Started a small load of KBB behind a charcoal rail with some expanded metal

Added 4 Oak chunks and a Bialletti Pizza stone and stood back!

I can't wait to do some pies now!

Feed back on the build would be appreciated-I'm not married to this yet!

Very cool. Interested to see how it works.

Looks good so far! I like how it fits to the bowl. I'm guessing it will keep more heat from escaping out the back. If you have trouble getting the top of the pies to brown, you might consider lowering the ceiling as low as you can. Do you plan to powder coat it after you finalize the design? The KP looks really nice when it's new, but does get pretty discolored with frequent use.

That looks to me like its ready to cook. Good work on the shell, and the roof is genius. You may end up adjusting the ceiling according to Jason's comment above. I do know that you won't like that grate handle right in front. You might look for a junker grate to mod so that you can both add coals and not have a handle sticking up.

Excellent use of materials !
I've watched a bunch of those saw blades get tossed out over the years.
