Title: Some vintage wheels
Post by: Jeff on March 09, 2013, 06:07:34 PM: So I stopped at an estate sale today with the wife and came across what was a vintage cart for a golf bag...probably from the 60's from the looks of it. I looked at the wheels and thought they looked very similar in style to the older 6" Weber wheels with steel hubs and rubber tread. Now none of my many grills have the steel hubs, so I can't compare side by side. These wheels are exactly 6", and fit perfectly on the axle for any 22" grill. The hubs are painted gold. I think I may leave them like that for now or maybe use them as is on some old grill in the future. The are both in excellent shape including the rubber tread. One has some slight pitting on the paint, but for its age...its really nice. And BTW...I paid 1.00 for the whole cart!
Sorry for the poor quality photos, but my main camera is being repaired.

So I know alot of us have been looking for some older vintage 60's style wheels. Maybe looking for old golf bag carts is the place to start looking?

Post by: G on March 09, 2013, 06:26:35 PM: Very possible they were manufacturd by the same company that made wheels for Weber (probably identical wheels)? The later style plastic whitewalled wheels with rubber tread were made by a company called Circle Engineering Co. Im guessing it was a local company that didnt just sell to Weber. Either way, those are nice and would look good with a copper OTS.

Post by: G on March 10, 2013, 07:43:22 AM: Note sure....Im sure any caulk would work but I figured Id spend the extra dollar for the "good stuff". Your tread is in pretty good shape. When I used it, the tread had shrunk and completely split leaving about a 3/8" gap.
