and what is the fix?
I picked up a blue today (pics tomorrow) and it seems to have early-onset G1PFLD (Gen1PerformerForwardLeanDisorder).
Do we know the cause of this disease? What is the cure?
On a different Gen 1 I screwed some 90-degree brackets in the 4 upper frame corners. What are other options?

Could be mis - assembled or rusted out , the first easy to spot .

The welded inner supports that plug into the legs rust out in wet climates. These supports not only attach the horizontal top part of the frame to the legs but they also keep it perpendicular. There is no fix other than reinforcing or rewelding.
Check this post to see a closeup of the culprit: http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/just-scored-a-free-red-ss-performer/msg56400/#msg56400

I drilled mine out and ran two pieces of all-thread through the length of the frame. Squared it up, tightened the nuts, and it is as good as new.
Maybe better!

Thanks for the info, guys. The all-thread idea is a good one and that restore by Brickout simply incredible.
