Woke Up This Morniní...
« on: February 13, 2018, 09:58:59 AM »
...and crushed a Half Marathon row on a  C2 Erg. I have been wanting to do this for a while. Itís nearly twice as long as any row I have ever done.

4 minute/1000m splits would have put me around 1:24+. I figured with fatigue those splits would drift a little. For a mid 30ís male, 5í11Ē and under, my goal was 1:30.

13.1 miles...21,097 meters...

Finished in 1:28:21

Iím going to tweak a few things and take another shot at it this year. I think I can shave another 2 minutes off of it.

That's cool Mike, congrats!  I have a model B Erg that I need to use more often. I rowed for Baltimore Rowing Club back in the day. At one point I was in the top 20% for my age in the annual C2 rankings. Did a couple regional Crash B races. I rowed 8s and 4s competitively. Have owned a couple singles. Nothing at the moment. Love the sport, and would love to find time to do it again. Need to drop some lbs to get back to it, but the erg will take care of that. Not sure I could manage a half marathon any time soon (I'm in my young 60s now with a weird heart rhythm and a bad knee), but at 6'4" one thing I do have is leverage!

Thanks guys!

I am still really pumped! I feel like I slayed a dragon today.

This particular row was a part of the Row'd Royalty competition (workout 18.3). There were two scores....a 2K time and the total Half Marathon time. The 2K acts like a teaser because you know you can really crush it, but its best to stay consistent and post a solid time rather than aim at a PR.

Marty, I know what you mean about being taller. Being about 5'11" I have to be much more efficient than guys who simply muscle the Erg or those who are taller like yourself. My normal SR (32) is a little higher than most taller rowers, but I brought it down a little today in the 29-30 range. I'm still working to get it down a little more.

The best part of this whole thing is that I feel great. I have good technique and I prepared by eating a little differently and hydrating this past weekend. I have heard stories of people tapping out because they are injured, gassed, or cramping up. The funny thing is, my normal "final sprint" is something I like to start in the 250-275m remaining range (for a 1k, 2k, 5k). Honestly, I had so much left in the tank I really need to rethink where to "punch it." 400-500m to go? Perhaps.

Wow you're a beast! Way to go! I struggle keeping a 30 SR for even 1km.
Together we'll fight the long defeat.
