I like introductions.
« on: July 16, 2017, 04:08:29 AM »
Hello folks,

I live in Australia's bush capital, Canberra. I'm originally from Sydney and will return there at some point. The rest of Australia tends to treat Canberra as a wee joke. Emphasising that it is the capital for federal politicians and public servants who are unhip, uncool and live in a socially unaware bubble. The last bit is mostly true. The unhip and uncool is fairly unfair. As a Sydneysider it is easy to throw rocks at a place that doesn't have a beach or a harbour or a bridge or an opera house or heaps of great places to hang or long summers and warm-ish winters. But hey it's own home for now. I should add that Canberra was the porn and fireworks capital of the country until the invention of the Internet and doctors convincing politicians to ban said fireworks (nationally).

In coming to Canberra, I gave up a Silver B but collected a Q and now a JJ. I have a OTG, WSM and a Go Anywhere Gas. They stopped importing the Go Anywhere G about 10 years ago and I get strange looks when I use it in public places... Due to new laws, there is only 1 place within 20 miles where I can get the gas cylinder filled. I have a wooden side table for the OTG which I believe was manufactured by the Weber franchise in Australia and only sold here (let me know if I've got that wrong). I bought my WSM from Amazon and had it shipped to Australia which worked out to be about US$100 cheaper than what Weber was charging for the grill in Australian stores. I've just paid US$130 for a set of the Grillgrates for the JJ (about $61 for the grates and $68 for shipping) and haven't told She Who Must Be Obeyed yet (crickey I hope they impress).

Thanks for reading!

Good luck and happy grilling,

Welcome from up the road from Hogsy.
I don't have a huge collection. But with 2 of the country's biggest collectors within 5 mins of my house, I figure it's cheaper to simply visit theirs.
Current collection: Red MT (EI), Red 18 (N). Red 18 (H), Red SS Performer, Red Gasser (Thanks Golly) 79 Chief, Blue GA, Burgundy GA, Simpsons SJ

Hello and welcome to the WKC from Eugene, Oregon.   All of the issues you mentioned exist almost anywhere from my aged point of view.  I find cooking on my kettles to relieve that mal taste from other issues regardless where I am.  :)
