Tuck-n-Carry (SJP) conversion: Should I Drill Holes?

This is my EO 18.5" daisy wheel kettle. I currently have it on a set of stubby legs for travel.




I REALLY want to turn this into a Tuck-n-Carry ( or SJP or old style Jumbo Joe or whatever it is called) with a lid lock wire. Like we talked about in Gunner's thread here: http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/18'-to-a-jumbo-joe-mod/

I don't think that black 18.5" daisy kettles are particularly rare, but as you see this one is a very clean example. Am I a fool for wanting to drill two holes in this for a lid lock? I may also mount a second bowl handle on it (more drilling!???).

What do you guys think?

I'm in the camp of "if you use it and want to modify it, go for it". At the end of the day, I don't think the 18" daisy wheel is gonna fetch $2000 on ebay anytime soon...

That daisy drilled with an oem weber tuck and carry would be sweet. Do it a favor and get a SJP handle on it from Brian too, yeah?

I like the OTGs for the stubby travel cookers.  I like having the enclosed ash can there, when camping in particular.  I assume you can't brig yourself to drill the OTG?

A converted 18"OT to OTG on the other hand...

Drilling that OTG is NOT an option!
But I could use the stubby legs on it for a camping trip...

Don't forget to remove the front handle.

But 15 year-old NIB items aren't for me. I wouldn't have the nerve to cut it out of there and start getting it messy. I also don't want a private museum.
