Ok, it's finally finished and ready to go
Be warned Brian 'Pic Heavy' ;D
This was fun to build and all of Golly's and my resources were pulled in to achieve
The Workshop

You have all seen the ring so I'll start with the mounting brackets for the shaft and the motor . The shaft sits on the bearings instead of on the slots in the ring. Makes for some smooth roti action.

The motor, the most expensive part..... So far! Fully encased with SS and ready to turn
It weighs about 8lbs and can turn up to 90lbs.... Over kill... Yeah but we believe do it once do it right
Once the motor was mounted we noticed the weight started to lift the ring slightly so we made another mod, also the motor is attached to the bracket by bolts and wing nuts for easy removal

Now the shaft and forks, its 1 inch SS rod with 4 prongs, we should be able to get 4 decent cuts of meat on it

We used sockets to connect the shaft to the motor

The cooking set up
We cut some expanded to size for general grilling

And made up some baskets out of an old kettle, expanded and some SS
Not the prettiest but it will do the job
Each basket holds over 2 chimneys worth of charcoal

All that's left now is to try it out, 30lb pig has been ordered and as long as the total fire ban which has been running for a fortnight is lifted, we'll be cooking on it next Friday night
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

That is a well designed piece of equipment and I really like the shaft bearings on both ends. Will definitely cut down on friction with a large load on the spit. Also love the baskets, nice use of materials. Overall great job!!!!! Can't wait to see the hog spinning!

Awesome work guys! Job came out amazing. Think we might have to get another WKC Aussie chapter meeting going and crank this bad boy up!

Interested in ANY offset handle SJs you may have.

That thing is built like a carnival ride! Should last a few hundred years, give or take. Can't wait to see it in action, but pics won't do, we need video.

Jocool

OMG.... You uni-jointed it? :o

That's grouse! (another new Aussie word)
If it breathes, we can cook it!
