Well, the propane tank on my SS Performer has finally run out. I can no longer get it refilled since it has the old-style valve. Is there a place where I can get a replacement 5-gallon tank? The only ones I've seen don't have the flattened handle, so I don't think that they will fit on the mount. Also, what would be the best source for a replacement hose.

It's hard to find 5 pounders with rectangular openings.  I have the Manchester tank.   It's pricey and I didn't spend that much on mine.

I do not know if the flame king model fits.  The opening is round but some careful mod to the handle may allow a fit.

There's are a lot of SSP guys here so I'm sure someone will chime in.

ClubChapin did a detailed post about modifying the Manchester tank. This should work n other brands and will allow a new tank to fit on the Weber SSP mounting bracket.   I did this mod on mine and it was very easy.

Based on the orientation of the handle I would vote to use the Manchester tank.

I use a steel braided hose with a 1lb adapter for my gas assist on my Performer. Many on Amazon. Get the shortest hose you can find. I prefer the steel braid to the rubber. A few bucks more for the steel but the squirrels chew through the rubber oness. So nice to have a 5lb tank. The 1 lb disposable cost more in the long/medium run, are difficult to safely dispose of and are really frustrating when you find them empty when you are in hurry to start a grill going. A new 5lb tank is good for 12 years. They fit well on the Performer bottom shelf without taking up much space.

I picked up an SSP that has the old-style hose and tank. I found a place that said they might be able to recertify it. They said they might be able to replace the nozzle on the tank with an updated version. Is this even possible. What does it mean to recertify your tank? If they replace the nozzle means that I will have to get another hose. Where can I find a hose? Weber wants $169 for theirs. What are my options. Thanks.

Recertifying is a great idea and will give you another 10 years of life on your old tank. They will swap in a new valve assembly and then hopefully can adapt the quick connect style fitting so that you can just replace it as-is. If you post a quick photo of your existing tank and connection I should be able to tell if its do-able.

Worst case if you re-certify is that you may have to adapt the hose end but it should be fairly simple. The 5lb tank is such a great size for the performer I would save it if at all possible.

Thread that illustrates how I fixed up my SSP.  I also put in a new burner tube assembly.

The bottom two are the ones you want to use as long as the regulators are working properly.  All you have to do is change out the connector on the input side of the regulator and get the Manchester 5lb tank.
