It was a big CL hit day for me... With a problem

What a day. First I hit on this:

as my first red. This is my first restore project.

Then, with the help of family, I scored this

The problem - The SS is in South Carolina and I am in Chicago!  Any of you have experience with shipping one of these in a cost effective way? It might be a while for me to try and drive it myself......

While those are certainly nice grills, the one in South Carolina is going to cost a mint to ship.  I am working out some details on shipping a simple cast iron grate and it is looking like 20 plus.  I would expect to drop 70 + to get it to Chi.  Add to that it will have to be taken apart and find a box to put it in.

The shipping companies all have shipping calculators on their web sites. Check it out for yourself.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

LB - I hear ya. It is a great gesture on my family's part. Fortunately, it has a place to stay if it needs to until I can get it in person. I just would love to have it here before that.

Agree Harris - thanks for reminding me. I shipped a pair of Tympani across country on Greyhound once. Talk about your odd-size package, but as long as they fit under the bus they were happy to take 'em for a ride for a lot less than the guys in trucks.

Thanks for the suggestion of Greyhound. I will check to see if that is an option.
