Sunday Smash Burgers
« on: August 02, 2021, 12:57:58 PM »
Craving more deck time and a nice smash burger I decided to have a go with my OTP with SNS plancha for a cook.  I found the plancha griddle plate to be rusty on Saturday so I got my wire wheel and drill out and took the cooking surface back to bare metal.  I re-seasoned it while cooking my ribs on Saturday so it would be ready for Sunday afternoon.  Burgers were amazing with bacon and white american cheese, garden tomatoes, vidalia onions, lettuce and the usual mayo, mustard and ketchup.  Buttered and toasted brioche rolls held everything in place and these did not disappoint.  Had a quick rain shower to cool things down a bit, but that was before lighting the coals.  All in all a wonderful Sunday on the deck.

Cheers!

Excellent burgers.
I love my charcoal fired (Hunsaker) griddle.

What kind of peppers are those that keep showing up on your plate?

Those look awesome! I glad that I did not have to clean up after the grilling was finished!

My kettle gets a thorough / complete scrub down after each cooking session.

Thanks!  My wife grows many different varieties of peppers.  These are cayenne peppers that give a little heat.  As summer wears on they are getting much hotter and lately I’ve only been able to finish about a half of one.  We've got more than we know what to do with - jalapenos included.  I've made poppers till we're sick of them lol.....

Thank you sir!  I’ve learned to clean the griddle to remove salt, then oil to prevent rusting.  The rest of the kettle gets much less attention…

Thanks a lot!  I've got two of these and they are the go to for smash burgers - or any griddle types of cooks.  I love having the tables which are always used.  Plus, pressing down on the burgers works great on the OTP - perfect height and no wobble.

Cleaning a well seasoned griddle is no big deal. I love mine.

Tell your wife, nice looking pepper garden!

How can you be sick of jalapeno poppers? They're wrapped in bacon! yummy

I'm requesting smash burgers on the SGI menu this October.

Will do Robert, thanks....It's her outlet and she hand digs everything with a pick-axe.  Stress relief!  We've got to think of something to do with all the peppers.  Will probably dry the cayennes and pickle the jalapenos.  Now we have tabascos coming up and producing from last year's peppers that fell to the ground.  You know how hot those things are lol....

Smash burgers at the beach?  Not sure I'll drag that plancha along, weighing in around 25lbs but we'll see.  I think my big red could take the weight if I bring it too.  Wife says we want oyster shucking lessons too BTW....Neither of us have done that before.

Don't worry about smash burgers at SGI!

Have you tried to make sweet pickled or candied jalapenos? Both are very tasty. Yes, your wife's pepper paste is freaking HOT!

I'll bring shucking knives and old dish clothes for the oysters. Maybe a fried oyster po boy sandwich too.

Look into fermenting peppers. Doesn't get much easier.

I've got a lot of green chiles in the ferment now.
Might post up some pics when they be done.
