First learned in a '51 ford 1/2 ton flatbed, but that was only in the fields.

On the road I learned to drive in a 1971 Datsun LB110. It was an unadulterated piece of shit.

1988 dodge shadow and a 1995 chevy astro van. I worked 4 summers and every weekend with my dad to pay for that shadow, which promptly grenaded 1 week later. After the shadow, I picked up a 1990 buick skylark.

The first car I drove (other than a driver's education car) was a 1964 Plymouth Valiant with a hole in the floorboard and stick shift.
It was older than I was.  I didn't drive it very often and never really learned stick shift on it.
About two years later, I bought an old Volkswagen Rabbit that was a stick shift.  That is how I learned how to drive a manual transmission.
The first two days were super embarrassing.

That is how I learned stick also. I bought a 1966 VW beetle as a baby Airman in the Air Force and had to drive it home 20 minutes in Las Vegas traffic  :o
