PSA to be skeptical of deals too good to be true.

I received a pm from a member daniel11 offering to sell me a Glen Blue in response to my post looking for a trade.

The first was one in a bit rough shape, for $300.  After I hesitated, he said, well I have another one and proceeds to send me a pic of the nicest Glen blue ive ever seen for $350.

A quick search showed me daniel11 had never posted here and the grill is Jeff's.  All the pics were from the wkc writeup on the homepage.

Glad I realized it before going too far.

His emails came from "david james" at djames12134@gmail.com

Thanks for the public service announcement, ABROB.  Good reminder to be vigilant when not dealing with active members.

I hope I speak for most here.  Feel free to ask for references.  Either from the seller/trader or other members.  I for one wouldn’t feel offended.  In fact some deals I’ve openly offered names of people I’ve had past dealings with.

Feel free to ask trustworthy fellas if they know of these newer, less active members.  If they don’t, they will likely reach out to others to help make sure you don’t fall for any shenanigans.  If I have any buy/sell concerns with a member I don’t really know of, I reach out my core group (some who’ve responded here already) to get some extra perspectives.  I will also read through their posts/replies to get a feel for them.  If more than 5% of their posts/replies are about acquiring/selling grails, or “what’s it worth”, my guard goes up immediately.

Thank you very much for the warning! Somebody has sent me a message on the forum after I asked if somebody had a blue Weber lantern. He said he knew somebody who had one and I could email him. So I did and he offered me one for 60 dollar. To cheap being blue. So I asked him for a picture and he have sent me 3. I googled blue Weber lantern and found all 3 foto’s are from the wkc forum. I asked for a recent picture with newspaper and he couldn’t give me that.
