Pork butts too cheap not to buy
« on: October 17, 2020, 04:49:05 AM »
Went to my local Meijer and found [emoji241] butts on sale for $.99 a pound. What would you do? I  know what I  did. I bought 19 pounds. Rubbed one down with mustard and Plowboy's Yardbird and the other with mustard and Aldi's Sweet & Spicy Kansas city dry rub.
The Summit was skipped this morning and the 26er was called into action. Built a 2×2 snake with Weber coals with lump crumbles sprinkled throughout topped with hickory chunks. Running in a counterclockwise rotation because that's what you are supposed to do with pork.

Thanks for looking.

I’ll be heading your way shortly. Do you want me to pick up some coleslaw on my way?  Lol. Looks great Karl.

Nice find. I love pulled pork. Unfortunately for me I just got two bad pork butts in a row.

Coleslaw would be perfect. The deli was closed when I picked these up late last night. Dinner should be around 6 [emoji6]

I've never had a bad butt.
Where were they from?

Walmart Grocery, Smithfield brand. Had to be some sort of refrigeration issue. Smelled like sulfur and stinky cheese. No slime tho.

When I see these prices at my local Meijer I have to speed up the grocery cart and turn my head the other way and then not venture back. My wife hates when I take up a freezer drawer full of pork butts lol

I need a bigger freezer
Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Looks amazing! Show us pics after smoked with that crispy mouth watering bark!

I like pork butts and I can not lie.
Our kettle brothers can't deny that.

I do the same. When they go on sale for .99 lb I buy at least 4 - 6 and put them in garage freezer.

[emoji2357]No finished pictures. I was in a hurry.
Finished up late and let them rest for a couple of hours before shredding and vacuum sealing for freezing.

I love BB pulled pork, it's one of my favorite smoked meats.

Lately I've been buying them for $.75-$.88 a pound in cryopac twin pack. I'll load up with three or four twin packs at a time.

Pork shoulder (BB) are a very versatile cut of meat. Besides pulled pork I use them for buck board bacon (cured & smoked), ground up for sausage patties and links, add-in for beef summer sausage, BB burnt ends, add 20% into ground venison, sliced into steaks and al pastor on the roti.
