Red Hot Coca-Cola 18
« on: September 14, 2020, 08:58:27 PM »
A red Coca Cola 18” has been very high on my grail list for years.  I was fortunate enough to secure one early in the spring that was in phenomenal condition.  I’m perfectly fine with the “stock” version, but I’ve had a vision for a customized Coca Cola since adding it to my list.

Contacted @KP for some primed, unpainted custom wheel inserts.  Did a light sanding, painted, and clear coated them.  Painted white on the wheel under where the lettering would sit.  @jebiv came up with the idea to use bottle caps as hubcaps, so I made us a few...epoxied an axle cap nut inside the bottle cap (removed the cap seal to allow max adhesion).  Added a 1/8” thick plastic spacer between the cap & wheel to prevent rubbing.

Can’t have a custom kettle without some @zavod44 handles.  Knew exactly what I wanted on the handles, so it was just a matter of what the artwork on the tab should be.  Brian and I bounced a few ideas back & forth until we came up with a combination of Coca Cola & Weber all in one.  He sent me the bare pieces so I could stain them to my desired finish.  Sealed with Spar varnish.

Added a 18” OTG ash bucket and ring.  Roughed up the exterior of the bucket and painted it using caliper paint (just in case I ever cook on it...which I won’t).  Had a new coated triangle, so I primed/painted/cleared it.

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn’t?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I’ve amassed a nice collection, but I’m missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

Love it.  Likely the best wheel mod I have ever seen.  Great work.

Beautiful grill there.  Definitely one for the trophy shelf!  My favorite parts are the hubcaps and red accents on the ash pan and triangle.  Amazing job.
