Genesis Silver B?
« on: July 18, 2020, 05:31:33 PM »
Was able to pick up a Genesis Silver B...I think? For free! IT all works just needs some tlc. I work at a hardware store and someone bought a new grill, they wanted us to take care of the old one......that they were still using until the new one came in. Looks like it will be a great restore.
I love the green[emoji16]

Great grill!
It looks like the frame is still pretty solid. Grates and flavorizors are still available, if needed.
I love the old East/West gassers.
A bunch of black kettles

The frame is pretty solid....i think I might replace the grates with the gourmet bbq set up...seems like I have seen one that will work. Also going to replace the wheels, I found those online

Grills with the controls on the front are considered north/south
Controls on the side are considered east/west.

That will clean up really well! I love this forum for my coal burners, but you can also find some more tips and tricks for gassers over at

You can pop it off and degrease it really well, then hit it with ultra high heat black spray paint. After it dries lay a piece of sandpaper on a flat surface and gently slide the emblem across it and it will bring back the brushed steel look for the writing and surround. You can leave it as is, but some people hand paint the little kettle red and then hit it all with a high heat clearcoat.

Sometimes they come off easy most of the time I have had to clean the hood and all around the clips before I can get them off which is part of the restore anyway. Gotta find the replacement clips too.

I have taped it off and painted it on the grill before too, if you pickup one of the sanding sponges   it's not too bad keep it flat and sand it on the hood.

The beauty of that setup is it’s all ready to use a rotisserie. You can put on the front and back burner and spin a bird. No other modern Weber gasser can do that. I have a summit with the rotisserie burner but it tends to burn the food that’s closest and leaves the rest with a less than desirable color. Unless the meat is perfectly round you get an uneven striping effect. Those genesis are more like a rotisserie oven. Overall they are great cookers.

I would shop around for some stainless grates as they can be found pretty cheap. There’s a Weber version and many aftermarket. Once you have solid grates the rest will work out. Burner tubes and flovorizers are all over the place. With the right stuff and care that grill could cook another 20 years.

By the way if you do shop for a rotisserie make sure it comes with the motor bracket that bolts to the cook box. They are usually missing.

So, the east/west has a great purpose.
My wife loves ours for quick lunch cooks. I also got it free and spent about 80 bucks on it.

Oh I just saw you might be missing the lower drip pan. You might want to look in to that first. It slides in to the two rails under the grill.
