Wood Dale Easterner
« on: July 08, 2020, 06:08:33 AM »
Picked this up a few weeks ago.  It pretty much tied my longest kettle road trip at 7.5 hours round trip but  I’m glad I did it.  Interestingly, the seller buys derelict storage units and this little gem was in a unit he bought.

The the kettle has a its fair share of dings and pops at all four grate straps, giving it a nice ladybug patina.

Before

Fortunately the legs and thumbscrews all came out with some PB Blaster rather easily.  All vents, vent tabs, and vent stops are all there and intact.  Sadly, it was missing the original ash pan.

The bowl has some cool over spray.  Not a single grate strap is straight up and down.   I really like this kettle for all of its quirky flaws.   It’s funny that kettle collecting has helped me let go of my Ocd, perfectionist ways.

I finally got my evaporust bath down to just enough to get the rust off the wheels but leave the paint.  The white walls are chipped and rather than repaint, I sprayed it with several coats of clear enamel to retain the overall patina.  The triangle came amazingly clean.  The pock marks got some oil.

All cleaned up and ready for fire.  What to cook first?

Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

I love these older grills....but have to chuckle a bit.

When these were new, everyone burnt their hands and cussed out Weber.  The wood, and eventually composite, handles were a Godsend.

Yes!  I remember having various used MLH ones that I bought used and then looking enviously at someone else's "upgraded" one with a wood handle on the lid.

I love these older grills....but have to chuckle a bit.
