Gut Punch
« on: May 31, 2020, 04:43:51 PM »
I picked up this perfect lil J code 18 a couple of months ago from the original owner.
It was a filthy mess, but seemed to be in great condition.  He said he kept it on his
deck from March until around Thanksgiving and then in his garage over the winter,
and had done so since he bought it new.  I detailed it out, gave it new wheels and
handles and took it straight to my home office next to my red 22 E code.   It sat there
for about a month, and I pulled it out two weeks ago to take this picture with my
Hasty and my Jr  for a project I was working on ......

Afterwards, I took it straight back to my office, and place it in the same exact spot.
It sat there undisturbed just as it had before.  My wife and I are empty nesters.
My wife may go in my office once a month, if that.  Basically, I am the only one that
ever goes it.  A kettle in my office is SAFE, out of harms way.  They sit in the corner
all byt  themselves about 6 feet away from anything else.
Yesterday morning, I walk into my office about 3AM with my coffee, flip on the light
and see something on the floor directly under the 18 ....

Hmmm, what the fuck is that, I'm thinking? As soon as I pick up a piece, I know exactly
what it is.

I look up on the bottom side of the kettle and see this ...

GUT PUNCH!  Knee in the package!  Whatever you want to call it.
DAMN!!!  &^%$##@**$!!!!

How does this happen?  WHY???  Anyone else ever have this happen?

Damn Dave that sucks!
Wish I knew what caused it
My WSM had a similar pop after the first time I used it, but I had fired it up, couldn’t imagine what would cause it just sitting inside

Is it in line with the grate straps like the normal porcelain pops that you see?
