Probe Port
« on: May 06, 2020, 05:36:48 PM »

I was looking to add a probe port to my CB Roti ring and found these and thought I'd give them a shot.

They worked better than expected.  Small enough to fit in the unused motor hole and large enough that a Meater Probe large end or a Thermoworks Pro Series probe will fit through.  The stoppers should work well to plug the hole when not in use.  It was pretty easy to poke a hole through a couple stoppers to slide onto the Thermoworks pit probe and the thicker Meater probe, four mounting a probe in the grommet.

This could be installed in any piece of sheet metal or grill/smoker.

I also put one in a Ball jar lid that we will use for monitoring the milk temp of yogurt we make.

Simple and inexpensive.

Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

I think so.  I think most silicone is good up to around 500F, which is higher than I usually tend to cook at, especially with my roti.

Good point though, might not want this near your coals or in a searing rig.

Depending on the age and quality of the silicone, it will start to melt at 350-400F. You should be okay, best to just suck it and see.

I only really manage to melt silicon when I’m welding on the same piece of metal quite close to the silicone.
