Fabricated a flavorizor
« on: March 08, 2020, 05:57:08 PM »
Surprisingly easy. This genesis was missing one bar when I bought it. The other porcelain coated bars were sound. My work has scraps of stainless laying around and I had a piece in my garage already. It took maybe 5 minutes with an angle grinder and vise.

Great job!
How did you bent it?
I wish my workplace allow us to take home or purchase all the surplus stainless sheets/panels/rods that they send out to recycling.

My boss is laid back and let’s me have various scraps as long as I ask.

I just cut the flat piece and clamped in a bench vise and pushed over the top half sticking out by hand. Then re clamped and repeated the process along the length bending a little at a time until finished. It makes a rounded corner but my original bars were a rounded corner as well.

I heard years ago that the reason Weber didn't use a better grade of SS was because the better grade tended to warp. I will be interested to hear if you see any difference between the factory bars and you home made bar. I am assuming you used a high grade SS for your home made bar. I am presently looking for a better set of flavorizer bars than supplied by Weber.
