I have a line on a HC w/the adjustable charcoal height (or maybe it is the grate height that is adjustable, but I got the impression it is the charcoal.  Thought it might be interesting & wondered if others had cooked on those ones & what they thought.

@brewtownbeatdown, I seem to recall you have a bit of a HC collection, any thoughts?
regards,
Hal

I do have a “few” HCs, two of which have adjustable charcoal grates.  The IAC has a leg socket spot welded to it, which sets onto the adjustment pipe.  Intake airflow comes from the upright tube.  The bottom of the IAC sets flush onto the tube to shut down airflow.  Running a snake indirect is not really a possibility, except at lowest “open” setting.  Can use a Weber basket (if you wanna raise & lower on the fly) to be able to sear, then finish indirect.

If you don’t mind, which style do you have a line on?  Hinges Lid kettle, or Pedestal Smoker?

Pedestal has less range than kettle

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn’t?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I’ve amassed a nice collection, but I’m missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

What does the kettle look like on the inside?

Both only have the upper grate tabs & flared central opening at bottom.  In the close-up pic of the IAC, you can see a ring where it sets onto bowl to “snuff out” coals.

Thanks @brewtownbeatdown.  The one I have a line on is kettle style, not certain if hinged

Kettle style would be a hinged model.  Doesn’t mean that the hinge will still be there🤨

@brewtownbeatdown do you find the adjustable height that useful or not really?
I might get it either way as it looks like it is pretty nice looking & a nice color.

Not really.  Good for searing, then switching indirect though.  Brown or Red?

WOW, grab ‘er!!!  That’s a helluva find.  Recently finished a resto on a red HC thumbscrew 22.  HC red really pops (kind of a cross between Weber’s Wood Dale red & 70’s red).
