First Chicken Attempt
« on: June 25, 2018, 11:35:29 AM »
I couldn’t wait any longer. Decided to took two whole chicken on the 57Cm Weber.

However by the time I came home. My helper had chopped up one of the chicken. So I decided to cook the one on its own.
It was 1.2KG chicken already spiced up from the supermarket.

Laid two piles of Weber charcoal on either side with a chunk of hickory on top of each pile.

In the centre I had a tray of apple juice.

Placed the chicken on w tray of vegetables with the chicken on top.  An placed on the middle of the grill.

It was at a constant 195 celsius for an hour at which point i lifted the lid up and it looked black lol.
But the internal temp was 55 Celsius. So cooked it for another 20mins and pulled it off.

At which point I decided to cook some burgers as well just in case an some chicken pieces from the cut up chicken.

By the way I managed to destroy two meat thermometers whilst cookin this lol.
Ended up running to local Tesco to buy another.

Feel free to tell me where I went wrong.

Only one handed at the moment so couldn’t take many pictures

One thing I will say is never buy preseasoned chicken. It was really bland. Even though the skin was abit burned it was ok but not great.

Doesn’t look too bad! Maybe a little crispy!

A nice way to cook a whole chicken is spatch-cocking it first (remove the back bone and flatten it out). It will cook a lot quicker and more evenly. Another tip is to pull the chicken when the breast is slightly below your target temp, and the carry over cooking will bring you up to where you want to be.

I’m with you about the store prepared.

And the best part, is now you get to try again and eat more chicken!

....how did you manage to do that?!!! :o

Judging by your second photo, I hope you didn't rest the thermometer actually on the lid of your Weber, whilst the chicken was cooking?!! If so, that was your problem.........!

I don't see an adult beverage in any of the pics !!
Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill
