Weber Hanging Rack v Gateway Drum Smokers Rack
« on: June 08, 2018, 03:20:11 AM »
Howdy All,

I'll keep it simple

Weber 7432 Hanging rack (Still available in Europe at some retailers)

Or

Gateway Drum Smokers Hanging Rack -Which I'm lead to believe fits the 47cm/18.5" WSM

https://www.gatewaydrumsmokers.com/Rib-Hanger-Kit-p/10630.htm

Which is the better, more sturdy, versatile one?

This is for use in the 47cm/18.5" WSM

The Gateway one is way more sturdy plus you get actual hooks that you can use

The Weber is handy, but has a few issues with it that the Gateway doesn’t have.

1) Stability. Weber folds up, but it can have problems locking in properly and the cross bars can easily dislodge during a cook (ribs in the fire).

2) Ease of Use. You can rotate the Gateway on the top straps for more of an even cook (if sidelighting).

3) Construction. Gateway is stainless steel. It will last forever. Weber is aluminumized steel/aluminum

Now...the Weber is more portable, and you can cook with one crossbar if needed. With the Weber you still need to buy good hooks so another $12-25 right there.

All things considered...get the Gateway.

I’ve got the Weber, but haven’t used it yet.

Compared to the gateway, it looks taller and higher capacity.

I don't have the Gateway, but I'll concur with Mike anyway.  I haven't splurged for a set of hooks yet, but I hung 2 racks of St. Louis ribs on the fish hooks that came with the Weber.  It worked, but it was awkward.  Other comments I've seen for the Weber recommend using binder clips to hold the crossbars in place.  I did not have a problem with the crossbars, but I probably will use binder clips next time.  Better safe than sorry.

Thanks chaps forever helpful.

I was leaning towards the Gateway in all honesty.

On a side note, does an alternative exist for the 57cm/22.5" WSM?

Yes. Gateway makes the hanging rack for the larger 55 gallon drum as well (which fits the 22WSM). If you order one of each it cuts down on the shipping. [emoji6]

I did see that, but thought that was too much a longshot of luck.  Now that throws a spanner in the works. [emoji1]

Made a heavy duty rack out of spare parts.  One of the hanging rods can be repositioned anywhere the rails without falling off.

Can be used with or without gbs grate.

Hanging skewers.

Impressive but you're just showing off. Us mere mortals struggle putting a jigsaw together, let alone that work of art [emoji4] Happy for you to send me a replica in good old blighty [emoji6]
