Found SS prevailing nuts last week at my ACE Hardware.  Have a bunch now in my rehab kit.

Had to look up what a prevailing nut is. and I worked at an Ace Hardware in college! Always heard them called split lock nuts. Hadn't considered that. I am going to try that route instead. Thanks for the idea folks!

I like to add a spring to the stack as well.
What's the spring for?

  Holds tension but not to the point you cannot rotate the wheel.
