That's probably where it is hung from when spraying the brown porcelain over the black. I have a few reds, browns and greens that all look like that. Not a defect. Just part of the manufacturing process. Not unusual to see black showing through around where the handle straps are welded or at the sharp edges either.

I would ask a senior club member, they would know for sure. I would guess it's where the grill was held when coated..?

Now, quick: someone compare it to a new LE red kettle! Handle straps have black edges, bare leg sockets, color doesn't go all the way to the ash sweep. lol. This isn't to suggest that there's anything wrong with this brownie. There isn't. The brownie is beautiful and I'd love to have it. I'm just highlighting how severely people overreacted to the new Reds, and why we have few options other than black. There. Hijack over.
