I think you still have to light it with paper/starter cubes/burner/ etc, but the fan speeds up the process. Would have been cool if it had a flame coming out of it.  8)

That's my thought exactly. It looks like you still have to provide a flame source. At first I thought that there was a built in heating element that would light the charcoal for you, so no lighter was needed. This is just a little fan though.

Note to self, design charcoal chimney that works off battery packs and has an electric element for lighting the charcoal.

So if I put this chimney over the burner tube in my Performer, I'll have my coals ready in 7 minutes.
Probably have them burned out in 10!
