Im so BLUE! (Pic heavy)
« on: April 29, 2018, 05:07:30 PM »
So a couple of weeks ago a buddy at work said he knew someone who had a weber they wanted to get rid of. So last week i texted and called her. She said she had 2 kettles and sent me some pics. Its a blue! I agreed to meet up on Sunday morning and secured the prize. 4 hours of cleaning and she is already on service. Not a bad day today.

Just one question. It doesnt have a letter code on it but it does have a one touch cleaning. Its not a replacement vent. Is there any other way to tell the age?

The lid vent is bolted on. Why would it not be a replacement?

The lid flange is more broad than recent lids. So it's '83- to pre- '97. '83 because of the One Touch sweeps, and by '97 (a least) the lid flange was more straight-down instead of gradual. (Reference: my EI lid is more straight-down instead of gradual.)

[I don't know what year the lid flange became more straight-down instead of gradual. Sometime after '92, based on my O lid.]

Sorry, I bolted it on. The rivet was barely hanging on

Ah OK. According the Age Guide, a raised "WEBER" without letter code = 1978

Every kettle has a story. Yours might be that the bowl was replaced under warranty but with a One Touch (unlikely, but who knows?) or that a '78 lid made it's way to it somehow.
