18” 1974 Lime “Fairway”
« on: April 28, 2018, 08:41:18 AM »
A co-worker brought this one to my attention. Found it in Hebron, IN. One of the colors I have been looking for.  Has a great peel in the finish too.

That looks great.[emoji106]
The handle should look good after a light sanding too.
Nice find.

Kneab. What grit sand paper would you use and what is a good finish for these older handles?

Congratulations @KevinP on scoring the lime.  I use #0000 steel wool to lightly sand and clean the two rivet handles. Then I apply a couple of hand rubbed coats of Tung oil.

Sometimes I use the 4/0 steel wool. Other times if they're a little rougher I'll send them with some 220 Grit on a wooden block. Then I will either use tung oil or a light colored stain and let that dry a few days. Then I follow that up with a few coats of spar varnish with a couple days in between each coat.
